Son-in-law ‘questioned over Russian links to campaign’
JARED KUSHNER, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and close adviser, has reportedly been questioned by investigators looking into Russian links to the Trump election campaign.
Mr Kushner was asked about Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser who quit after misleading statements about Russian meetings, according to reports.
It is the latest development in the probe by Robert Mueller, the special counsel and former FBI director investigating Russian meddling in last year’s US election.
The investigation has already led to criminal charges against three Trump campaign advisers, including Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman. Mr Kushner’s meeting with Mr Mueller’s team, first reported by CNN, was said to have lasted around 90 minutes. Abbe Lowell, Mr Kushner’s attorney, said: “Mr Kushner has voluntarily cooperated with all relevant inquiries and will continue to do so.”
Mr Flynn quit as national security adviser in February after officials concluded he had misled them about his contacts with the Russian ambassador.
Reports that Mr Flynn and his son were being looked into by Mr Mueller’s team have emerged in US media in recent months.
However, this week it was reported that attorneys for Mr Flynn alerted Mr Trump’s legal team that they could no longer share information about the case.
The development has triggered speculation that Mr Flynn could be working with the investigators as part of a plea bargain deal. No charges have been brought against Mr Flynn.
