Spoiler alert: fruit doesn’t belong in the fridge

-

sir – You report (November 29) that new supermarket labels will tell customers to keep their fruit in the fridge.

Since much fruit is packaged with the advice to ripen at home, stuffing it all in the fridge is simply a recipe for it to go mouldy.

sir – When I lived in Florida, I always kept fresh fruit and vegetables in the bottom of my fridge; I do the same now that I live in Britain.

I also keep sliced, wrapped bread on the fridge’s upper shelves, and milk in the door.

Refrigerating food items means I only need to shop a couple of times a week.
