Bride killed on honeymoon after boat went out in monsoon
♦ A bride died on her honeymoon after a pleasure boat was taken out despite warnings not to set sail due to a monsoon, an inquest has heard.
Monica O’connor, 28, from Sale, Greater Manchester, was in Koh Samui, Thailand, with husband Tim on May 26 last year when the accident took place. Jason Parnell, 46, from Sileby, Leics, who was celebrating his first wedding anniversary with wife Puja, was also killed along with two people of other nationalities.
South Manchester coroner’s court was told yesterday they were among 32 tourists on the boat when it capsized after being hit by a wave. Sanan Sridakeow, the captain, was jailed for a year and operator Limited Partnership Angthong Discovery Tour was fined after admitting recklessness.
