Bride killed on honeymoon after boat went out in monsoon

♦ A bride died on her honeymoon after a pleasure boat was taken out despite warnings not to set sail due to a monsoon, an inquest has heard.

Monica O’connor, 28, from Sale, Greater Manchester, was in Koh Samui, Thailand, with husband Tim on May 26 last year when the accident took place. Jason Parnell, 46, from Sileby, Leics, who was celebratin­g his first wedding anniversar­y with wife Puja, was also killed along with two people of other nationalit­ies.

South Manchester coroner’s court was told yesterday they were among 32 tourists on the boat when it capsized after being hit by a wave. Sanan Sridakeow, the captain, was jailed for a year and operator Limited Partnershi­p Angthong Discovery Tour was fined after admitting recklessne­ss.
