Brexit is failing amid a series of humiliating concessions to the EU

-

SIR – Theresa May has failed in the latest talks with the EU. Of course she has, as she did not completely roll over, but just wait a few weeks longer and she will capitulate fully.

I have followed politics for over 50 years and I can’t remember being so angry as I am now (and that’s saying something). We have a weak party led by one of the weakest leaders ever.

No wonder radical parties gain members even when they are often viewed as being too radical. I could never consider voting for Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour and now it looks like Mrs May’s Conservatives are also unelectable. Ukip appears to have faded away.

We should take (peacefully) to the streets and raise hell. Remember that once democracy dies – and we are close to that – radicals take over. David Pattenden

SIR – It is 18 months since the referendum, and we find a divided Cabinet, a divided Conservative Party, a divided House of Commons, and a country which is divided in a variety of ways. This is the main cause of the weakness and confusion inside the Government.

On the Irish border question, there is agreement that a hard one would be disastrous. Equally, if the UK leaves the single market and customs union, the province cannot be treated separately; however, the Government remains committed to leaving both entities. Something must give ... what? Geoffrey Gammon

SIR – Negotiations involve a two-way process, which is clearly absent here. What single concession has the EU made so far in these surrender talks? None. How humiliating. Richard Longfield

SIR – When will our elected Government show some resolve and tell those in Europe who are still trying to extract the lifeblood from us to get lost? I have been a Conservative all my life, but feel completely let down by this spineless apology of a Government.

We hold the aces and yet the PM has been giving everything away. Arlene Foster, the DUP leader, was right to hold Mrs May to account. Simon Clift

SIR – Might I suggest that the Prime Minister and her Cabinet take a short sabbatical and join HM Forces for a year?

They would be taught and learn the full meaning of courage, fortitude, loyalty, integrity and succeeding in the face of adversity with limited resources and time.

She and her Cabinet could then put these newly learnt principles to good use in dealing with the EU.

I only offer this advice as I have not seen any of these principles displayed so far.
