Unfair care fees

SIR – You report (December 2) that self-funding care home residents are being charged anything up to 40 per cent more than councils which pay for the same accommodation for nonpaying clients. My family have suspected for some time that this iniquitous practice is going on.

Our 100-year-old mother is contributing from her dwindling resources to subsidise the council. This cannot be just, and the Government must to put a stop to it. Tim Hadland
