An app that pays in cheques – on one condition

SIR – Paul Appleyard (Letters, December 4) asks how he can pay in a cheque with a mobile phone.

Barclays has the answer. Using their banking app, you photograph the cheque and forward it to them. The problem is that it can only be used with Barclays cheques and is still in development.

I have not had the pleasure of using the service yet, as the only cheques I have needed to pay in over the last two years have not been Barclays ones. David Wesson Wokingham, Berkshire

SIR – Mr Appleyard doesn’t need a mobile phone. I bank with First Direct, which has no branches. When I receive a cheque, I post it to them with a paying-in slip and it appears in my account within a day. Nick Serpell Darwen, Lancashire
