Storm brings warning of 80mph winds

♦ Storm Caroline is set to hit Britain tomorrow, bringing winds of up to 80mph.

It is the third UK storm of the season to be named by the Met Office. A severe weather warning for wind has been issued for northern Scotland.

Forecaster­s warned drivers to take care and said that train passengers are likely to be hit by longer journeys and cancellati­ons.

With widespread gusts of up to 70mph, the Met Office said coastal communitie­s were expected to be affected by large waves. The yellow weather warning for wind is in force from 8am to 11.55pm.

The Met Office said: “Storm Caroline is expected to bring a spell of very windy weather to northern Scotland on Thursday.

“Gusts of 60-70 mph are expected quite widely, with gusts to 80mph possible near north-facing mainland coasts and across the isles.”
