Jobs for teens
SIR – I have two teenage children. It is too simplistic to blame them for not getting a Saturday job (leading article, December 5); they would like the employment and would certainly enjoy the money.
The rise in flexible working practices, including zero-hours contracts, means that many of the jobs that teenagers would have done at the weekend are now considered to be part of a full- or part-time contact.
For the children of the 21st century, Saturday employment in a shop, warehouse, hotel or restaurant just isn’t available anymore. Sally Stone
