THE MOMENT A TRIBUTE TO AZZEDINE ALAIA

- Caroline Leaper

Naomi Campbell opened the night with a tribute to her “papa”, the Tunisian designer Azzedine Alaïa, who passed away last month. Joined on stage by 13 of Alaïa’s other favourite models and muses, Campbell spoke of how, when the designer welcomed her into his home at 16, “he opened my eyes to the world”.

“Everyone in this room knows that Azzedine was able to transform a woman’s body into something special,” she said of his work. “He made you look great and still like a woman.” As proof, Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Veronica Webb and co then posed in formation on the stage, showcasing the “King of Cling’s” signature creations, exactly as he would have intended them to be worn.
