Council members opt to choose Mrs, Miss or Ms
A council has rejected a bid to ban the use of Mrs, Miss and Ms prefixes, describing the suggestion as a “politically correct straitjacket”.
The move was proposed by Conservative councillor Deneice Florence-jukes, but the motion to remove the titles was voted down by East Staffordshire borough council.
Female titles will be retained after members opted instead for an amendment giving the option to members to choose their own titles.
After the vote Florence-jukes said that she felt “a degree of disappointment” and a claimed the decision was “blow” to openness and equality.
