Christ­mas tur­keys on run af­ter trailer crash

Dozens of tur­keys des­tined for the Christ­mas ta­ble made a break for it along the M5 af­ter a trailer over­turned. A ve­hi­cle trans­port­ing 640 birds was in­volved in a col­li­sion near a busy junc­tion in Worces­ter­shire, which al­lowed about 30 birds to es­cape.

A po­lice spokesman con­firmed that some of the tur­keys died in the in­ci­dent at J5, at around 10am yes­ter­day. A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “The RSPCA were called by High­ways Eng­land to as­sist at a crash in Worces­ter­shire af­ter a trailer con­tain­ing more than 600 tur­keys sadly over­turned.

“We sent two in­spec­tors to the scene to as­sist and they stayed at the scene un­til a vet ar­rived.”
