Allen’s daughter rues Hollywood hypocrisy

- By Rozina Sabur in Washington

DYLAN FARROW, Woody Allen’s adoptive daughter, has hit out at Hollywood’s double standards after Kate Winslet defended the filmmaker, saying he is “on some level a woman”.

Ms Farrow, 32, has repeatedly claimed Allen sexually assaulted her when she was seven. Winslet, who stars in Allen’s latest film Wonder Wheel, defended the director in a recent interview, saying he writes strong female characters because he is in some ways a woman himself.

“I think on some level Woody is a woman. I just think he’s very in touch with that side of himself. He understands the female characters he creates exceptionally well,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Ms Farrow has hit out at actresses who continue to work with the film director while publicly lambasting Weinstein over his alleged actions.

In an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times yesterday, Ms Farrow criticised Kate Winslet, Blake Lively and Greta Gerwig for speaking out about sexual harassment in the industry while refusing to condemn Allen.

“It breaks my heart when women and men I admire work with Allen, then refuse to answer questions about it,” she wrote.

Allen, 82, has always denied Ms Farrow’s claims that he assaulted her in 1992.

 Bryan Singer, the Hollywood director, has been accused in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy in 2003. A representative for Singer told AP he “categorically denies these allegations and will vehemently defend this lawsuit to the very end”.
