Hunt for grateful patient

- By Nicola Harley

A HOSPITAL has launched a social media hunt for a grateful patient who has sent an anonymous Christmas card every year since 1960.

For 57 years the former patient has sent a card thanking the staff who cared for them to Stamford Hospital in Lincolnshire. Every year “without fail” a card appeared on the matron’s desk with the same message. It reads: “From a very grateful patient in 1960. And still going strong.”

This year the card shows a robin on a fence in a wintry scene. Matron Sue Brooks told the BBC: “It would be great to find who is still so grateful after all these years.” The letter is addressed to staff at the disused Exeter Ward and has a postal mark for the South East Anglia Mail Centre in Chelmsford, Essex.
