Polish lawmakers’ win over judges

Poland’s government took a step closer to wresting independence from the country’s judges yesterday when its lower house approved changes to the supreme court. The move, bitterly criticised by the EU, will give the Right-wing populist ruling party the power to decide the composition of the top court. The legislation needs the approval of the senate and President Andrzej Duda.
