He leadeth me

SIR – It is reported that the Pope wants to change one phrase in the Lord’s Prayer (report, December 8).

I was reminded of one parishioner who always changed the phrase “Lead us not into temptation” into “Leave us not when in temptation”. It may not have been an accurate translation, but I felt it gave a real sense of the prayer. Canon Rodney Matthews
