Twist of hate

SIR – If crimes against women are now to be counted as “hate crimes” (report, December 7), the only unprotected group left will be white men.

It would be simpler therefore to phrase the law as: “Any white man who upsets someone who isn’t a white man will be guilty of a hate crime.”

Should I be so accused, I will immediately identify as a woman and let the lawyers sort it out. Peter Lally
