Cold Bath

-

SIR – Professor Christina Slade no doubt worked in a heated office during her time as vice-chancellor of Bath Spa University. My granddaughter, in her first year at Bath Spa, has one electric wall heater, which has not worked since she arrived.

Perhaps a fraction of Professor Slade’s £808,000 “golden goodbye” (report, December 7) could be allocated to a caretaker to attend to those who actually pay to be there. Fiona Farnworth

SIR – It’s not unreasonable for the remuneration committees setting the salary levels of higher-paid staff to have strong representation from whoever pays the bills. In the case of universities, the students pay. Professor Ted Parker
