Questionable survey

- Lyndsey Simpson

SIR – I would like to point out to readers in Lancashire who have any connection at all with children of primary school age that NHS Lancashire is putting out a “health” survey to year six pupils, along with the usual height and weight screening.

The questions are about whether you are a boy, a girl or “other”, and also whether you think you were born into a wrongly gendered body. There are further questions (designed, I’m sure, to alarm children about the transition to high school) on whether your peers get drunk or take drugs.

Most of the parents I have spoken to did not take the opportunity to check out the questionnaire beforehand because they assumed it was accurately named as a “health questionnaire”. Even our headteacher hadn’t read it.
