EU backs out of Cambodian polls

The European Union yesterday withdrew support for Cambodia’s election authority, questioning the legitimacy of polls next year after the dissolution of the opposition transformed the kingdom into a virtual one-party state.

The EU described the Cambodian supreme court ruling to dissolve the party as arbitrary and said as a result the election “cannot be seen as legitimate”.
