Reliable undertaking

-

sir – Charles Moore (Comment, December 11) suggests people might sign a form undertaking not to seek compensation for any accident incurred, in order to remove liability from the organisers of events. We did this when hunting with the Kilkenny hounds in Ireland before a gloriously perilous day across a hairy country.

Any feeling of butterflies at the meet was not improved by the gentleman who provided our excellent horses. As he threw us into the saddle, he slipped his business card into our hands with a confidential: “Don’t worry; I’ll look after you.”

As well as being the provider of wonderful hirelings, he is also the local undertaker. Matthew Higgs
