VATICAN NOTE.

ROME, WEDNESDAY

The Osservatore Romano, the organ of the Vatican, publishes the following Note: “The entry into Jerusalem of English troops is welcomed with pleasure by all, especially by Catholics, who cannot but be satisfied to know that the Holy City is in the hands of a Christian and not an un-christian Power. This sentiment of satisfaction is all the greater, and more reasonable, when, one remembers the principles of liberty and toleration which inspire the acts of England, from which we may well hope that the rights and interests of the Catholic Church will be recognised and respected.” The Patriarch of Jerusalem has telegraphed to the Pope announcing that immediately upon being informed of the latest developments he left Nazareth for Jerusalem. He asserts that Jerusalem is absolutely undamaged, not a shot having been fired against the city. – Central News.
