Jail for jihadist pair who planned attack
A MARRIED jihadist couple were yesterday jailed for planning a terror attack in their home city of Birmingham.
Ummarayiat Mirza, 21, and Madihah Taheer, 22, his wife, were sentenced to 16 years and 10 years respectively after an intelligence operation had led to Mirza’s arrest at gunpoint in March.
Woolwich Crown Court head the couple had been planning a knife attack just days after the Westminster Bridge attack and had looked at targets, including the city’s central synagogue.
The court heard that Taheer had a “kill list” with Katie Hopkins, the controversial columnist, on it and when police searched the couple’s home, they found a training dummy with slash marks across the forehead, throat and abdomen.
Mirza admitted one count of preparing terrorist acts between January and March. Taheer denied any involvement but was found guilty of preparing terrorist acts between Feb 12 and March 30 through buying the knife.
