Hail to the chiefs

SIR – Kellyanne Conway, the counsellor to President Donald Trump, says that Mr Trump “is very aware that he is only the 45th person to hold that job” (report, December 11).

In this, she is incorrect. Although Donald Trump is the 45th American president, he is only 44th person to hold that office. Grover Cleveland is denoted as both 22nd and 24th presidents as he served noncontinuous terms from 1885-89 and from 1893-97. Rob Firth
