Rail bosses fill top 10 of best paid public servants
Rail executives make up the top 10 of public servants paid more than the Prime Minister.
Network Rail officials spearheaded a 14 per cent increase in public servants – from 389 to 442 – paid more than Theresa May’s £150,000 a year.
The top 10 officials all worked for transport agencies – seven worked for Network Rail and three worked for High Speed Rail 2.
Mark Carne, the chief executive of Network Rail, was the highest paid, taking home up to £749,999 a year.
The news came as travellers are braced for delays on the trains as Network Rail prepares for major engineering works over Christmas.
