‘There is zero tolerance of anti-semitism in the Labour Party and that is how it should remain’

JEREMY CORBYN was heckled and challenged over his record on antisemitism within the Labour Party as he addressed the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM).

Mr Corbyn addressed the JLM for the first time since he took the Labour leadership and insisted the party was committed to confronting the “very serious” issue of anti-semitism.

But he was labelled a “liar” and was challenged over the party’s handling of Ken Livingstone, the former Labour mayor of London, who is currently suspended over comments he made about Adolf Hitler and Zionism.

The Jewish News said that Mr Corbyn told JLM’S Chanukkah party in London that he wanted JLM to be “part of and involved in the party at all levels”.

He also insisted that Labour had “zero tolerance” towards anti-semitism. He said: “There is zero tolerance of anti-semitism in the Labour Party and that is how it should remain. It means we have to call out people who use racist language or anti-semitic language or any other kind of intolerance within our party.”

Jeremy Newmark, the chairman of the JLM, reportedly urged Mr Corbyn and the Labour leadership to offer a reassurance that “people like us” are welcome in the party and that it understands “anti-semitism the same way we do”. He was quoted as saying the “relationship between our community and party is broken”.
