Hayek’s Weinstein horror allegations point to a man obsessed
Salma Hayek’s skincrawling account of her dealings with Harvey Weinstein have brought fresh horror to light.
Hayek, 51, has added her voice to that of 70 other women who claim to have been sexually harassed, attacked and, in some cases, raped by the movie mogul.
Hayek says she found herself constantly pestered by Weinstein during the development of Frida, her double Oscarwinning film about the artist and cultural icon Frida Kahlo.
When she refused to take a shower with him or consent to sexual acts, he grew furious and once threatened to kill her, she has alleged.
Eventually, he held the film to ransom; without his participation, it would never get made. He demanded Hayek film a love scene featuring full-frontal nudity with another actress, or he would pull the plug.
Hayek, who says she was so distraught she had to take a tranquilliser to shoot the scene, called Weinstein her “monster”, and with good reason. He might have denied it, but everything points to a man obsessed with power. And now his victims have overcome their revulsion and fear, let justice be done and victory be theirs.
