Robber said his eczema meant his DNA spread to crime scenes

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A ROBBER repeatedly avoided conviction after claiming his bad eczema meant his DNA was erroneously found at crime scenes.

Courtney White, 22, was the ringleader of a gang of moped raiders who attacked Three Mobile shops armed with hammers, knives and a gun in a £1million crime spree.

But he claimed his bad eczema meant he shedded his skin wherever he went, saying that this was why his DNA was found at crime scenes.

White had twice previously used his skin condition as a defence while on trial for moped-enabled crimes and was cleared each time. But a jury has now rejected his defence, convicting White of possession of a prohibited firearm after a trial at Wood Green Crown Court.

White, of Tottenham, faces jail next week with nine other moped raiders after they were convicted of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, said to have been used during the robbery spree, in a car on Dec 2 2016, three days after their final raid.

White’s DNA was found on the weapon.

In a defence statement, White said he did not know how his DNA came to be on the gun but added that he “suffers from eczema”.
