Hillsborough horse attack claim was lie

-

♦ A farrier who lied that Liverpool fans had burned a police horse at the Hillsborough tragedy that took the lives of 96 football fans will not be charged, the CPS has announced.

The civilian farrier supported claims made by a mounted police officer, seen lashing out at fans before the 1989 FA Cup semi-final, that supporters had been burning his horse with cigarettes. The farrier, a friend of the officer, also described seeing serious injuries to the horse but it is alleged the accounts were false and were given to protect the officer from disciplinary action.

The CPS said there was not enough evidence to prosecute the former police constable and charging the farrier was not in the public interest.
