Primary discovered pupils self-harming
♦ Primary schoolchildren are self-harming, the charity Mind has warned, as mental health experts are called into schools to help pupils.
Harrietsham Primary School called the charity after pupils were found to be involved in self-harm.
The school, in Kent, received a National Lottery grant of £8,650 to help with the problem and has already trained two teachers, with 18 members of staff set to receive training in total. Parents and governors will also attend an awareness course.
James Walker, project manager at Maidstone and Mid Kent Mind, said it spent about 30per cent of its time going into secondary schools but Harrietsham was the first primary school to contact the charity.
