The Brexit question
SIR – While I do not doubt Philip Duly’s historical accuracy (Letters, December 16), I would suggest that Brexit is about much more than free trade.
At the heart of the referendum vote was the very survival of democracy. Free trade is a luxury to be earned by first achieving the right to national self-determination.
If the Conservative Party loses power (again) because it is split, it surely won’t be over the question of whether or not Britain can trade freely with the rest of the world, but rather over who should be in control of the nation’s destiny. DR Taylor
