MPS told security review will not lead to more spending

-

A SECURITY review being carried out by Mark Sedwill, the National Security Adviser, will not deliver more money to protect the country, despite growing threats from terrorism and Russia.

The review comes as the Defence Secretary, service chiefs and MPS are calling for more defence spending amid fears that otherwise rising costs will lead to deep cuts to forces.

Mr Sedwill told a Parliamentary committee it was “commissioned against the background that we spend around £56bn a year on national security”.

Meanwhile, the Government’s failure to disclose how much the multibillion pound purchase of F-35 Lightning II jump jets will cost is unacceptable, MPS have warned.
