Prince Harry succeeds Duke as head of Marines

-

Prince Harry has replaced the Duke of Edinburgh as ceremonial head of the Royal Marines.

His appointment comes after the Duke, 96, held the position for more than 64 years.

The last of the Duke’s 22,219 solo public duties before retiring in August was to take the salute from a group of fundraising Royal Marines. Yesterday he was joined at Buckingham Palace by his grandson as the prince assumed his new position.

Buckingham Palace said The Queen “has been pleased to give her formal approval to the appointment of His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales as Captain General Royal Marines.”
