Twiggy the Christmas tree seems to be pining
A REUSABLE Christmas tree has come under fire from villagers who claim it looks “sad” and has “spindly” browning branches.
Residents of Mottram, Greater Manchester, said the sparsely-decorated tree looked like the “embarrassing runt of the litter”.
The council-bought pine – dubbed “Twiggy” – was planted in 2014 as an alterative to buying a sawn tree.
Villagers attempted to add festive cheer by sprucing the tree up with garlands of tinsel and baubles, but their efforts were scuppered in part by Storm Caroline, which left it battered and drooping.
Posters on a Facebook page created for the tree have repeatedly pointed out how it has failed to flourish.
Beccy Lane wrote: “A nice strong healthy looking pine would have been preferable to the ‘runt of the litter’ that has been foisted upon us.”
Crystal Davies said its colour had faded and the appearance of “Twiggy” had deteriorated. She said: “I genuinely think she looks worse this year than last. Her branches are droopy and are going brown.”
But Rod Springthorpe called for calm. He wrote: “Twiggy will grow to be a fine pine. Patience Mottronians, he’s alive and he’ll thrive. All this negative thought, I hope comes to naught. Our poor little tree is trying, he’s not dying.”
