Berlin remembers terror victims
Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor, at the opening of a monument at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin yesterday to honour the victims of the Christmas market attack on the city’s Breitscheid square a year ago. Germany’s leaders admitted they failed to provide adequate support and comfort to victims of the attack and they also acknowledged security gaps. Anis Amri, a failed asylum seeker from Tunisia, rammed a truck into the crowd on Dec 19, killing 12 and injuring 70. Four days later, he was killed in a shoot-out with police near Milan.
