Rough justice at Cofe

-

SIR – What about justice for Lord Carey? He, as well as Bishop Bell, has been treated abominably (Letters, December 19).

It appears that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has not remembered Jesus’s words: “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone”.

Even the Church of England now takes the approach of “guilty until proved innocent”; and, when proved wrong, it won’t retract. Barbara Owen

SIR – The Church of England has finally nailed its own coffin.

There is now such positive discrimination towards female priests that an unknown, untested female bishop – with no previous diocesan experience – has been appointed Bishop of London (report, December 19). This is a diocese that has a large number of both conservative evangelical and Anglo-catholic parishes, which will not even recognise this good lady as a priest. James Pearson
