Plastic penguins

SIR – In terms of usefulness, learning that the amount of plastic thrown away over Christmas is equal to the weight of “more than three million emperor penguins” (Nature Notes, December 19) is up there with a supermarket magazine a couple of years ago explaining that its new line in reindeer meat “in taste and texture resembles antelope”.
