I won £41m – Google me ... just keep the sex a secret
A EUROMILLIONS winner who scooped £41 million has won an injunction banning a bar owner’s “softcore porn” book about their affair.
Donna Desporte wrote a book, Google Me, No Lies, about her ninemonth relationship with then-married Gareth Bull, a former bricklayer who won the jackpot in 2012.
Ms Desporte, who runs a bar in Tenerife, wrote the book after her relationship with Mr Bull, who owns a £1.5million villa on the Balearic island, ended, leaving her “wounded”.
In a bid to stop publication of the book, Mr Bull, from Notts, took his fight to the High Court where a judge has granted him an injunction.
The court heard the pair started a relationship after silver-tongued Mr Bull wooed her with line, “I won the lottery, Google me.” He then lavished cash on her before their relationship foundered.
The book, which details their sexual relationship, was made available as an e-book in
November and in physical form earlier this month.
Jacob Dean, Mr
Bull’s barrister, described it as “pornography” and claimed some of the contents breached his privacy and that of his family. “We say it is highly sensitive ... what you see in
Miss Desporte’s book is several pages of soft-core pornography,” Mr
Dean told the judge.
“My client is not a public figure, he is not somebody who has presented himself as ever having been deceptive to former partners.” Ms Desporte, 48, from Bournemouth, texted Mr Bull, saying: “I’m writing a book and an article. The book is about me, not about you. There’s a bit about you. I don’t want to create difficulties for you.” But when the book appeared, Mr Bull, who is now separated from Catherine, his wife, claimed it described their sexual relationship, as well as information relating to his family and health. Yesterday, Miss Desporte told the judge: “Mr Bull made a series of advances to me based on deception. He held my hand and told me, ‘I’m not sleeping with anybody else – one dog one bone’. That was false.
“I would not have got involved with him sexually but for those inducements. He was playing a game with me. “He was telling people we weren’t sleeping together, when we were having a very in-depth relationship. It’s in my book. It’s making the point that I have been used. It’s in the public interest for the truth to come out.” Judge Patrick Moloney QC ordered the book to be removed from sale in the UK ruling that Mr Bull had “a strong case” as parts of the it breached his privacy rights. Commenting that Mr Bull is “very rich” thanks to his lottery win, the judge added: “That is effectively all that he is famous for.” Miss Desporte has been banned from discussing or publishing details of their sexual relationship in England and Wales.
