Sandals of time

Lawrence of Arabia’s centuryold Arab footwear – found in a Waitrose carrier bag in Derbyshire – was sold at auction yesterday. The battered war-weary sandals and other items, including school prizes, that once belonged to Thomas Edward (T E) Lawrence, one of Britain’s most famous military figures (above), fetched £2,600 at the sale in Etwall, Derbyshire.
