Uninsured driver took out policy in back of police car

-

AN UNINSURED driver took out a policy while sitting in the back of a police car, officers have revealed, as they awarded her “10 out of 10 for effort”.

The woman was stopped by traffic police for driving without insurance, but she insisted she was covered.

While the officers made further inquiries, they sat the driver in the back of their squad car – where, while claiming to be checking her emails on her mobile for her existing policy documents, she signed up and paid for motor insurance.

But her ruse was foiled when the police double-checked the timings, Northampton Police said. The officers pulled the woman over at 8am and found she’d taken out a policy nearly half an hour later. Insp Anthony Rawson wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: “Currently have a car stopped that I seized last month for no insurance. Again no insurance is showing on the car so making some enquiries!”

Around 20 minutes later he posted: “Have spoken to another insurance company she says she is insured with. That policy was taken out at 0825.

“She has been in our car since 0800. 10/10 for effort. Car seized and driver reported for the second time in 4 weeks!”

The tweet included a photograph of the back windscreen of the car, bearing a neon green sticker reading: “Uninsured driver, seized by police.”

In reply to a question about how the woman managed to make the purchase, Insp Rawson said: “I asked her to locate the email with her policy details on.” Her car was seized and she was reported for driving without insurance.
