Auld Lang Syne could soon be consigned to the history books as a survey of Britons reveals just three per cent of them know the words to the popular song.
Written in 1798 by “Scotland’s Bard” Robert Burns, the world-famous poem is traditionally sung to usher in the new year as the clock strikes midnight.
However, research by Sainsbury’s found that 42 per cent of millennials do not know a single word, while three per cent wrongly named Mariah Carey as the author.
