Charles proud of son for embracing his long-running campaign on climate change

- By Steve Bird

PRINCE CHARLES told his son on the radio broadcast how proud he was of him for embracing his concerns about climate change when critics had accused him of being “dotty” in the past.

As they explained their belief that mankind needs to work with and look after nature to save the planet, Prince Charles said: “Well, my darling boy, it makes me very proud to think that you understand.”

The pair gave a tantalising insight into their close relationship as they revealed how they often talk for “hours and hours and hours” about environmental issues.

Prince Harry asked his father what single issue he would choose to focus on in 2018, adding how they would probably both pick the same thing, climate change.

His father replied: “I think you know because I have probably bored you to tears for so many years. Not everyone else did but, maybe now, some years later they are beginning to realise that what I was trying to say may not have been quite as dotty as they thought.”

He claimed climate change was the “biggest threat multiplier we face” because humans are now dealing with symptoms “that are springing up all round the world”, causing “untold horrors, ghastly conflicts and humanitarian and natural disaster”.

He added that humans had “abandoned” their connection with nature, often instead battling against it.

He also said that the economy should “better mirror and mimic nature’s brilliant economy” by not exploiting and wasting Earth’s resources but instead ensuring nothing is ever wasted.

Prince Harry then asked if his father felt optimistic for the world his sons, grandchildren and others would inherit, adding how he felt there was a need for action about climate change.

His father replied: “Well, my dear boy, if I may say so, the fact you are saying this gives me enormous optimism because I haven’t put you off [by] banging on all these years. Because if you think that, it’s really encouraging.”

stood his father’s point of view, before praising him for foreseeing what is happening today 15 years ago.

The Prince said that coming from a younger generation he had remained optimistic but added that “now is a real test … for humanity to be able to swing that pendulum” to preserve the planet.

His father replied: “Well, darling boy, it makes me very proud to think that you understand.”

Prince Harry added “And that I am listening.” To which his father replied: “That’s even more amazing.”
