Bloom and bust

SIR – Denis Kellaway asks: “What is the difference between a Bitcoin and a tulip bulb?” (Letters, December 27).

When I was a wine merchant with Green’s of the Royal Exchange in the Eighties, we sold copious quantities of en primeur claret to City traders for “investment”.

The idea was that if the punt went wrong, you could always drink it. With a Bitcoin, you can’t enjoy a beautiful tulip if your investment plummets. Sean Bellew
