In a new light

While most people would have raised a glass for the New Year, 45 men in a Northumberland town were raising burning barrels in an age-old tradition. For the Tar Bar’l fire festival in Allendale the men, called ‘guisers’, carried whisky barrels filled with burning tar in a procession through the town.
