Smart resistance
SIR – We are having exactly the same problem with our smart meter as Keith Wood (Letters, December 30).
Having switched our supplier, we now find that the smart meter cannot connect and we have to return to reading the meter manually.
Apparently a second-generation meter will have superior technology, so my advice is to resist having a smart meter until they are capable of being switched to a new supplier. Phyllis Leventhall

SIR – Following two letters and a phone call from British Gas, an engineer arrived at my house and informed me he could not fit a smart meter as the box was too small. He then replaced a perfectly good meter with a new one.
