Six held in neo-nazi terror investigation

-

 Six people have been arrested on suspicion of belonging to the far-right group National Action.

One woman from Banbury and five men from Cambridge, Banbury, Wolverhampton, Leicester and Stockport were detained. Police said the suspects were aged between 21 and 37 and were being held on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. The arrests were preplanned and there was no threat to the public’s safety, police said. Investigators were continuing to search the suspects’ homes yesterday.

The operation came as three other alleged National Action members were due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court in an unrelated terror case.

The far-right group was banned in December 2016 by Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary. It was the first British neo-nazi group to be outlawed. Its members supported the murder of MP Jo Cox and have conducted a number of demonstrations, including making Nazi salutes outside York Minster.
