John Finnemore’s Souvenir Programme RADIO 4, 6.30PM

Tonight sees the return for a seventh series of John Finnemore’s cult sketch show, with Margaret Cabourn-smith, Simon Kane, Lawry Lewin and Carrie Quinlan. Always clever and creative as well as sparkling and – crucially – funny, the show has won many awards and it is a joy to welcome back to the afternoon comedy slot. The jokes are enhanced and the sketches are accompanied by songs from Susannah Pearse, performed by Pearse on piano and Sally Stares on cello and accordion.

Great Lives: John Lennon RADIO 4 EXTRA, 6.30PM

A chance to enjoy a classic edition of Great Lives from 2010 in which pop culture journalist John Harris celebrates the life of John Lennon. Harris remembers the first time he encountered The Beatles (he was five). But the focus is on Lennon’s extraordinary music and lyrics, as well as his anti-establishment way of working. Harris also explores Lennon’s appeal as a difficult artistic personality and the challenges it that posed in The Beatles and beyond. The expert witness is Barry Miles, in whose London gallery John first met Yoko Ono in the mid-sixties.
