FTSE at record high on strong day for markets

The FTSE 100 closed at a record high of 7,695.88 points on a buoyant day for global markets. The Dow Jones, the US’S blue-chip index, smashed the 25,000 barrier for the first time shortly after markets opened in New York, and the Nikkei 225 surged 3.3 per cent to a 26-year high.
