Woman dies after a fall from Scott Monument

A woman has died after falling from the Scott Monument in the centre of Edinburgh.

Police were called to the landmark on Princes Street at about 3.45pm yesterday. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Princes Street was closed to traffic but later reopened.

At this early stage, the death is not thought to be suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to Princes Street at around 3.45pm on Friday. The woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 2139 of January 5.”
