Italy snow strands 10,000 tourists

About 10,000 tourists were cut off yesterday in the Italian resort of Cervinia after heavy snow triggered avalanche warnings and landslides across the Alps.

Cervinia was buried under two yards of snow during storm Eleanor. Tourists in Adelboden in Switzerland were also stranded before the army moved in. The avalanche risk was at level four out of five in many resorts last night.
