Elderly dog ‘too deaf ’ to hear search parties

An elderly dog that disappeared in the snow for 10 days might have been too deaf to hear search parties.

Red, the Welsh border collie, has now been found alive and well and is recovering from the weight loss it suffered after disappearing on a snowy Pembrokeshire mountainside.

Caitlin Thompson, its 21-year-old owner, said she was elated by the surprise return of her after so long and thanked the many volunteers who helped her publicise Red’s disappearance.

“We’re just overwhelmed and so relieved she was still alive – it’s amazing,” said the student.
